Ya hemos ubicado el jard\u00edn comestible, ahora nos toca comenzar a dise\u00f1arlo.<\/p>\n
Empezamos con la limpieza del terreno que hemos elegido para dise\u00f1ar nuestro jard\u00edn comestible. \u00c9ste ser\u00eda \u00a0un trabajo en equipo con los beneficiarios. Procedemos a quitar, si las hubiera, piedras grandes, maleza o socavones para que el terreno quede lo m\u00e1s nivelado posible.<\/p>\n
A no ser que queramos hacer nuestro jard\u00edn comestible con bancales elevados, t\u00e9cnica que se describir\u00e1 m\u00e1s adelante en esta unidad did\u00e1ctica, se podr\u00eda arar el terreno por \u00faltima vez si \u00e9ste est\u00e1 muy duro, aunque no se recomienda para no desequilibrar m\u00e1s el suelo. Si existen muchas hierbas podr\u00eda venir bien pasar una desbrozadora o cortarla a mano, dej\u00e1ndolas extendidas sobre el terreno y moj\u00e1ndolas por encima. Tambi\u00e9n podemos usar animales como gallinas, patos, ocas, cerdos\u2026, haciendo un cercado fijo o m\u00f3vil con una parte sombreada y agua en la zona donde queremos hacer el jard\u00edn comestible, dej\u00e1ndoles en el cercado el tiempo suficiente, que ser\u00e1 cuando el terreno est\u00e9 totalmente limpio de hierbas y abonado por los animales.<\/p>\n
Es importante colocar como m\u00ednimo un biotopo en el jard\u00edn comestible. Para ello elegimos el lugar y lo construimos previamente, integr\u00e1ndolo con sus plantas y bordes (Foto III.1).<\/p>\n

Esta labor es la inversi\u00f3n m\u00e1s importante que debemos hacer para obtener buenos resultados de forma permanente desde el primer a\u00f1o en adelante. Nunca debemos de extender el compost menos de 15 a 20 cm de altura por querer obtener m\u00e1s cantidad de superficie de terreno para el cultivo. Es mejor menos superficie con la altura m\u00ednima propuesta de compost, que tratar de tener m\u00e1s superficie con menos altura de compost<\/strong>. Y si no disponemos de compost suficiente, colocar \u00e9ste s\u00f3lo en los canteros quedando el camino m\u00e1s bajo. En este \u00faltimo caso tener en cuenta que debemos de dise\u00f1ar los canteros previamente para poder extender el compost en los mismos (Foto III.2). <\/strong>Una vez terminada esa labor mojamos cultivar suelo. Podr\u00eda ser un compost vegetal o animal o incluso la mezcla de ambos. Si tenemos nuestro propio compost maduro podr\u00eda ser suficiente para empezar (Foto III.3). La manera de colocarlos es clave para mantener la hierba controlada varios meses, incluso hasta un a\u00f1o. Estando mojados se facilita una mejor fijaci\u00f3n entre ellos. Es m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil que queden totalmente extendidos sin muchas rugosidades, y no corremos el riesgo de que una brisa los levante. Una vez empapado el peri\u00f3dico se abre a la mitad y se coloca en el terreno. Si el peri\u00f3dico es muy grueso lo podemos separar en dos peri\u00f3dicos.<\/p>\n Colocamos los peri\u00f3dicos en el terreno de la siguiente manera: comenzamos por el fondo del jard\u00edn por un extremo a formar la primera l\u00ednea con el primer peri\u00f3dico abierto a lo largo sobre el compost; el segundo peri\u00f3dico lo solapamos a la mitad del primero, y as\u00ed sucesivamente solapamos un peri\u00f3dico tras otro de modo que crearemos una primera l\u00ednea que llegue hasta el otro extremo de la zona que queremos cubrir.<\/p>\n La segunda l\u00ednea se har\u00eda siguiendo el mismo procedimiento teniendo en cuenta, eso s\u00ed, que los peri\u00f3dicos de esa segunda l\u00ednea se solapan a su vez sobre la mitad del ancho de los peri\u00f3dicos de la primera y as\u00ed sucesivamente formaremos esta segunda l\u00ednea con el mismo m\u00e9todo que la primera, hasta terminar de cubrir nuestra superficie l\u00ednea a l\u00ednea (Foto III.6). De esta manera si se hace bien la actividad habr\u00eda un m\u00ednimo de solapamiento de cuatro peri\u00f3dicos en toda la superficie cubierta excepto en los bordes, situaci\u00f3n que podr\u00edamos solucionar con un refuerzo de peri\u00f3dico o cart\u00f3n en estas zonas. Con ello se evita que la hierba pueda brotar perforando f\u00e1cilmente los peri\u00f3dicos por un incorrecto solape. Este grosor de peri\u00f3dicos vendr\u00eda muy bien para zonas donde tengamos el problema de las hierbas adventicias de dif\u00edcil eliminaci\u00f3n. Para evitar un mal solape en esos puntos de encuentro hay que asegurarse de que en estas zonas se mantenga el mismo criterio de un m\u00ednimo de solape de cuatro peri\u00f3dicos.<\/p>\n Si esta labor la hici\u00e9ramos con cartones se solapar\u00edan igual o m\u00e1s que los peri\u00f3dicos moj\u00e1ndolos con frecuencia con una manguera para asentarlos, y para que no se los lleve el viento. Es muy importante no pisar los cartones en seco una vez solapados ya que se desplazan con mucha facilidad, perdi\u00e9ndose con ello las funciones del solape. El cart\u00f3n tiene el inconveniente de que al descomponerse con m\u00e1s facilidad y rapidez que el peri\u00f3dico da lugar a que la hierba brote en un periodo m\u00e1s corto de tiempo.<\/p>\n Es importante que las personas responsables de monitorizar esta actividad colaboren en su seguimiento para asegurar que haya una buena cobertura de los peri\u00f3dicos o cartones. De esta manera todos aprenden, comparten, se ayudan y disfrutan del trabajo, fomentando entre todos, la concentraci\u00f3n, la atenci\u00f3n y las relaciones y habilidades interpersonales.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n En el siguiente paso toca cubrir el peri\u00f3dico o cart\u00f3n con la materia org\u00e1nica vegetal que ser\u00e1 nuestro acolchado. Antes de colocarla nos debemos asegurar de que la superficie de los peri\u00f3dicos o cartones est\u00e9 h\u00fameda. Si estuviera seca se mojar\u00eda con cuidado con manguera o con el agua sobrante de los cubos para, por un lado, evitar que los peri\u00f3dicos o el cart\u00f3n se desplacen si el agua de la manguera tiene mucha presi\u00f3n o si el agua sobrante se tirara bruscamente, y por otro, aprovechar que el agua se incorpore al suelo a trav\u00e9s de los solapes (Foto III.8).<\/p>\n tengamos se cubre la superficie de peri\u00f3dico y\/o cart\u00f3n de la manera m\u00e1s homog\u00e9nea posible, aportando un grosor aproximado de entre 5 y 8 cm, que se nos reducir\u00e1 a la mitad cuando se asiente en el terreno (Foto III.10), en m\u00e1s o menos una semana. Hay que tener en cuenta en todo momento que si por alguna circunstancia el viento deja alg\u00fan claro debemos reponer nuevamente ese claro con acolchado para mantener el mencionado grosor. No debemos olvidar regar de nuevo una vez terminada la actividad de acolchado.<\/p>\n El nivel de acolchado sugerido es el indicado para verduras y hortalizas. Si quisi\u00e9ramos, por ejemplo, obtener un cultivo de papas (patatas) deber\u00edamos incorporar el doble o m\u00e1s de materia org\u00e1nica para que los tub\u00e9rculos dispongan de m\u00e1s Hay que recalcar la importancia de evitar pisar sobre el cantero<\/strong> para que no se apelmace el suelo. A partir de este momento ya pisaremos s\u00f3lo en los caminos.<\/p>\n Una vez marcado el espacio con su dise\u00f1o tenemos que delimitar los canteros de los caminos, usando lo que podamos tener a mano como piedras, botellas usadas, troncos de madera, etc., que iremos recolectando y que colocaremos encima de las marcas del dise\u00f1o, quedando as\u00ed plasmado en el terreno el dibujo de nuestro jard\u00edn comestible.<\/p>\n Aqu\u00ed podemos estimular la imaginaci\u00f3n con los participantes y tratar de reutilizar el material disponible todo lo posible, integr\u00e1ndolo de una menos elasticidad para que podamos pisar en ellas y acceder a la zona de cultivo sin pisar el suelo.<\/p>\n O en el caso de disponer de un espacio muy reducido y querer aprovechar al m\u00e1ximo la zona de cultivo, se podr\u00edan sustituir los caminos por losetas en la propia zona de cultivo, a modo de pasos, por lo que se podr\u00eda plantar en la zona entre losetas (Foto III.20).<\/p>\n En producen inundaciones y poder as\u00ed proteger los cultivos del agua. En zonas donde llueve poco pero con mucha intensidad servir\u00eda para conducir el agua a trav\u00e9s de los caminos entre los bancales como zanjas de infiltraci\u00f3n donde el agua se amansar\u00eda, filtrar\u00eda y ayudar\u00eda a no erosionar el terreno. La construcci\u00f3n de los bancales elevados se realizar\u00eda cavando la tierra del camino hacia el bancal, para obtener la altura suficiente, seguidamente se le proporcionar\u00e1 como m\u00ednimo entre 15 y 20 cm de compost solo en zona de cultivo y no en los caminos. En estos bancales tambi\u00e9n se aplicar\u00eda el mismo m\u00e9todo de colocar peri\u00f3dicos\/cartones con acolchado en canteros y caminos que hemos explicado anteriormente (Foto III.21). Este sistema aporta al jard\u00edn humedad de una manera homog\u00e9nea, lo que facilita la descomposici\u00f3n de la materia org\u00e1nica y participa en la creaci\u00f3n de un suelo vivo. Todo ello da lugar a que al mismo tiempo que se riegan las zonas de cultivo, se regar\u00e1n los caminos que nos proporcionar\u00e1n aproximadamente en un a\u00f1o un rico compost que podremos utilizar como sustrato para nuestro vivero o nutriente para nuestros canteros.<\/p>\n Tambi\u00e9n se podr\u00eda combinar el sistema de riego por aspersi\u00f3n con el sistema de riego por goteo para gestionar el gasto de agua en lugares donde \u00e9sta escasee, o llegado el caso podr\u00edamos utilizar solo el sistema de riego por goteo (Foto III.22). distribuci\u00f3n de las plantas m\u00e1s utilizado de nuestro jard\u00edn comestible es la forma piramidal, que consiste en colocar las plantas de mayor tama\u00f1o a la hora de su desarrollo en el Son clave en el ciclo del carbono. Nos ayudan a mitigar y adaptarnos al cambio clim\u00e1tico. We have already located the garden; now it is time to start designing it.<\/span><\/p> We start by cleaning up the area we have chosen to design our edible garden. This would be the first teamwork activity between the beneficiaries.
